A Little History of OCF
The seed for Orchard Christian Fellowship was planted in July 1999. A group of Christians began meeting Wednesdays in a South Hill home to pray for Spokane. In September, Chris Merkling, then pastor of worship at Calvary Chapel of Spokane, began teaching a weekly bible study in a rented space at Westminster Congregational Church. After prayerfully seeking the Lord’s will, Chris presented an idea to his pastor, Ken Ortize, about starting a new Bible-teaching fellowship in that area. Ken agreed, and Chris officially stepped down from his service at Calvary Chapel after eleven years on staff.
In early December 1999, Chris held an official information meeting, following the Wednesday night Bible study to present a vision for “Orchard Christian Fellowship” and a proposed doctrinal statement.
In 2004, the Lord opened up the opportunity to purchase it’s present facility at 312 E. 3rd Avenue in downtown Spokane
In the years that followed, OCF grew, and continues to grow, as a ministry and a vibrant fellowship of believers
